HINGE

We often "step back to a Hinge. In closed position, the man steps back on his right foot and the woman steps forward left, beginning to turn 1/4 to the left. Both step side on the lead foot. The man uses strong left-side stretch and left-face body rotation to move the woman to an L-position at his left side. She crosses her left foot behind her right, changes weight, and both lower on the left leg. She almost sits on his left thigh and both extend the right leg, she in front of her and he to the side.

In leading the hinge, the man delays the lowering action still more than in the Throwaway Oversway. He rotates, leading her to move her left foot to her right. He gives her time to change weight. Then, as he lowers, it is her right foot that is free, and it extends forward, as he lowers.
