Fred and Ginger before
there was Fred & Ginger
These
are a few Broadway photos of Fred Astaire (1899-1987) with his sister,
Adele (1896-1981). They performed in vaudeville from 1905 until 1917,
and then on Broadway. The last time they danced together on stage was
March 5, 1932, in a road-company version of The Band Wagon.
Adele then married Charles Cavendish, son of the Duke of Devonshire,
and left the stage for good.
